Recent data from Keep Britain Tidy suggests that there are 153 million pieces of litter on England’s streets at any given time and much of this waste can often make its way to the oceans via waterways such as canals and rivers.
That’s why the Duo team were keen to participate in the Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean 2024. The clean-up brought together local residents, charities and businesses of Greater Manchester to tackle litter and enhance our shared space.
The Duo team focussed their clean–up efforts on the Rochdale canal which is close by our manufacturing HQ in Greater Manchester. Many of the team take walks along the canal but report that unfortunately it is often littered. With litter pickers and bags at the ready, and despite the rain, the team removed 62 bags of litter.
Emma, Project Manager from Keep Britain Tidy commented:
“We are delighted that DuoUK have been involved in this year’s Great British Spring Clean. We know the company works hard to tackle litter and fly-tipping in the area and it’s great to see the team out in force yet again. Duo certainly embrace the notion of working together to help make Manchester a cleaner and greener city and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved for all of their hard work”
Zoe Brimelow, Brand Director from Duo Packaging commented:
“I couldn’t be prouder of our team’s dedication to cleaning up Greater Manchester alongside Keep Britain Tidy. Recent statistics highlighting the staggering amount of litter on England’s streets serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for action.
We didn’t let a bit of Manchester rain stop us from making a difference and the team removed 62 bags of litter from our local area. This isn’t just a one-time effort, but the start of action to create a lasting behaviour change. Beyond the clean-up, we’re committed to working with the community and tackle litter at its source and promote responsible waste disposal practices.”
